One of the ways to disinfection alginate is by spraying sodium hypochlorite. The concentration of sodium hypochlorite solution that can be used as a disinfection solution according to the ADA are 0.5%, 1%, 2%, 5%, and 5.25%. The disinfection on alginate should not change dimensions. ADA states that impression materials should not change more that 0,5% from its original size. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of sodium hypochlorite concentration on changes in alginate dimensions. The method of this study was an experimental laboratory with post test only control group design with 24 samples. The alginate was sprayed with aquadest solution as a control, sodium hypochlorite solution with concentrations of 0.5%, 1%, 2%, 5%, 5.25% then filled with gypsum. The dimensional stability was measured using a digital caliper. Data were analyzed by One Way Anova and then followed by Post Hoc LSD Test. The result of this study showed that the largest change in dimensional stability occurred in 0.5% sodium hypochlorite solution, while the smallest was in the 5.25%. One Way Anova test showed that there was a significant difference (p<0.05) between spraying with 0.5%, 1%, 2%, 5%, 5.25% sodium hypochlorite solution. The conclusion of this study was there is an effect of the concentration of sodium hypochlorite solution on the dimensional stability of the alginate impression.
2022-12-30T03:58:45-05:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://adj.fkg.unand.ac.id/index.php/ADJ/article/view/224 Hubungan Keparahan Karies dengan Kualitas Hidup Ibu Hamil di Puskesmas Lubuk Buaya Kota Padang 2022-12-30T04:59:40-05:00 Lutfia Khairani Zulfaneti susisusi@dent.unand.ac.id Gita Dwi Jiwanda Sovira susisusi@dent.unand.ac.id Susi Susi susi@dent.unand.ac.id
Background: Dental caries can cause health problem among pregnant women including pain, eating and sleeping disturbances. It’s impact to the physical, social and mental health and also affected their disruption of the quality of life. Objectives: This study aims to determine the relationship between the severity of dental caries and the quality of life among pregnant women at the Lubuk Buaya Public Health Center. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study that involving 74 pregnant women. The quality of life was measured by the OHIP-14 questionnaire with seven assessment aspects. Quality of life categories is good (score ≤ 27) and poor (score >27). PUFA index was used to assess caries severity. PUFA categories is negative (PUFA = 0) and positive (PUFA ≥1). Data were analyzed by chi-square test. Results: This study show that almost respondents (55.4% of pregnant women) have PUFA (+), with mean 0.82 ± 0.86 SD. Most pregnant women have poor quality of life (51.4%). Some chief complaints discovered due to the severity of caries like disruption of tasting food 10.8%, discomfort during chewing the food 48.7%, feeling tension 10.5%, stopping while eating 56.8%, feeling not relaxed 17.6%, daily activities disturbance 8.1% and less happy 9.5%. Pregnant women with PUFA (-) had more good quality of life, while pregnant women with PUFA (+) had more poor quality of life (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Caries severity influence quality of life. This suggests the need for strategies to prevent and manage caries in pregnant woman.
2022-12-30T03:59:58-05:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://adj.fkg.unand.ac.id/index.php/ADJ/article/view/221 Gambaran Perilaku Orang Tua dalam Menjaga Kesehatan Gigi dan Mulut Anak Tunagrahita Tingkat SD – SMP di SLB Negeri 2 Padang 2022-12-30T04:53:20-05:00 Aninda Putri Mulyani sriramayanti@dent.unand.ac.id Sri Ramayanti sriramayanti@dent.unand.ac.id Wulandani Liza Putri sriramayanti@dent.unand.ac.id
Introduction: Children with special needs, especially in groups of mentally retarded has greater risk of poor oral hygiene. In prosthodontic treatments, the anatomy and arrangement of the teeth is one of the factors that must be considered in order to be able to plan a treatment design. Deep bite with larger overlap of the maxillary and mandibular incisors make the lateral load borne by the teeth become greater. This can cause damage to the tooth and periodontal tissues, as well as failure of the denture. This article reports on the treatment of edentulous of the tooth 21 with deep bite with convetional brigde PFM. Clinical examination showed that there was an overlap between the upper central incisors and the lower incisors by 5 mm and there was a toothwear defect in the form of attrition on teeth 31 and 41. The patient was planned to have a 3 unit conventional bridge made with porcelain fused to metal with a metal backing design to reduce the thickness of the preparation in palatal area and minimize contact with opposing teeth. At the insertion, the patient's occlusion is checked and evaluated so that there are no premature contacts and occlusal interference during centric and eccentric movements. The patient is satisfied with the results of the treatment. Treatment with fixed partial denture in deepbite must be well designed and planned to achieve successful treatment.
2022-12-30T04:03:43-05:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://adj.fkg.unand.ac.id/index.php/ADJ/article/view/225 Pengaruh Pendidikan Kesehatan Gigi dan Mulut terhadap Perilaku Orangtua dalam Memelihara Kesehatan Gigi dan Mulut Anak 2022-12-30T05:01:00-05:00 Alfiyah Pujiyati alfiyahpujiyati4@gmail.com Risya Cilmiaty alfiyahpujiyati4@gmail.com Widia Susanti alfiyahpujiyati4@gmail.com Betty Saptiwi alfiyahpujiyati4@gmail.com Adi Priyatno alfiyahpujiyati4@gmail.com
Background: The high prevalence of dental caries in preschool children is caused by various factors, including: knowledge, attitudes and behavior of parents.
