Visually and tactilely in the oral examination could not provide adequate information about the condition of the tissue under the submucosa. A panoramic radiograph can show anatomical considerations that influence the fabrication of a removable denture. Therefore, a panoramic radiograph of the patient can help reveal anomalous or pathological conditions in the patient's oral cavity. Purpose: To describe the importances of panoramic radiograph to identify lesions that are not clinically visible in the oral. Case: This article reports a patient with complaints of discomfort in the previous denture. On clinical examination found a prominance on the lower jaw in the left side of the mandible and it was pain on palpation. The patient was referred to radiology for a panoramic radiograph. From this panoramic radiograph, a suspected complex odontoma was found in the lower left posterior region. The patient was immediately referred to the Oral Surgery department for surgery. Conclusion: Panoramic radiographs play an important role in helping to establish a diagnosis of tissue that is not visible during clinical examination. This case demonstrates that with the aid of radiology, a preprosthetic treatment plan can be established to prepare the supporting tissue for removable dentures.
Ivony Fitria, Gunawan Gunawan ##submission.copyrightStatement## Wed, 01 Jun 2022 00:00:00 -0400 Faktor Motivasi Mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Gigi Universitas Andalas Berkarir Sebagai Dokter Gigi (Studi Deskriptif)
Background: The motivation for selecting a dentist career is the complex consideration. Knowing and understanding dental students' motivation is important for institutions to manage learning systems to create dentists that can fulfill the needs of the community. Purpose: to describe the motives and perceptions of undergraduate and postgraduate dental students attending Faculty of Dentistry, Andalas University. This study was conducted to 120 academic and clinical students in this institution. The students were instructed to fill a questionnaire consisting of 25 questions. Eight questions were scored from 1 to 2 , 1 question was a multiple choice question and the rest were scored from 1 to 4. The data were tabulated by Microsoft Excel, factor analysis was tested by SPSS software. Results: Fifty three percent of students chose dentistry in the first place. The most common factors choosing dentistry are internal or external motivation, profession, and remuneration. Dental students showed a strong tendency to pursue higher study and managing private dental clinics. Conclusion: humanity, flexibility, and financial status were found to be important motivating factors. Hence, it may be a good idea to establish educational programs in the faculty to educate students based on their career choices.
Fildzah Nurul Fajrin, Rahmatul Aini, Reno Wiska Wulandari ##submission.copyrightStatement## Wed, 01 Jun 2022 00:00:00 -0400 Gambaran Pencabutan Gigi di Rumah Sakit Gigi dan Mulut (RSGM) Universitas Andalas Pasca Pandemi Covid-19
Background: Tooth extraction in dentistry is an act of removing the tooth from the socket hole in the alveolar bone, where there is no more treatment that can be done to maintain the tooth. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling and the number of samples obtained is 649 samples. Results: The prevalence of tooth extraction was 16.3%. Based on gender, 366 cases (56.4%) of women had their teeth extracted, which was higher than 283 cases of men (43.6%). Most tooth extractions were recorded in the age group 1-10 as many as 253 cases (39%). The most common causal factor of tooth extraction was retained dental root in 195 cases (30%) Conclusion: .The prevalence of tooth extraction in the RSGM, Universitas Andalas still high, so an adequate education and prevention of tooth extraction was highly recommended to the society.
Surma Adnan, Tiara Adzakiyah ##submission.copyrightStatement## Wed, 01 Jun 2022 00:00:00 -0400 Hubungan Severe Early Childhood Caries (S-ECC) dengan Status Gizi Anak Usia 36-71 Bulan di Paud Kota Bukittinggi
Background: Children with severe early childhood caries (s-ecc) will experience pain and difficulty chewing. The sample size was 56 children aged 36-71 months with def-t criteria ≥ 4 and selected by consecutive sampling method. S-ECC was measured using pufa index and nutritional status was measured using IMT / U. Results: the overall mean def-t children with s-ecc 7.77%. Children with positive pufa were 66.1% and those with 48.2% malnutrition status. As many as 62.2% of children with (s-ecc) positive pufa have malnutrition status.
